  • Allow hot food in glass jars and containers to cool to room temperature before storing in the freezer to prevent thermal shock (extreme changes in temperature). Thermal shock will cause the glass to break. It is also best to store glass jars and containers with food in the fridge for 24 hours before transferring to the freezer.
  • Properly thaw frozen food to prevent glass jars and containers from breaking. Slightly open the lid of the glass container or jar and transfer to the fridge. Allow food to thaw for at least 75%.

Remove the glass container or jar from the fridge, open the lid and continue thawing at room temperature. When about 90% thawed, transfer food to another container to completely thaw.

Never place food in a glass container or jar in the microwave or hot water. Even if you think the food has thawed a bit, the glass container or jar may still not completely be in room temperature and may break.
